    1. I give the House of Stairs a three star rating because it is very creative. The fact that the story takes place in a house filled with nothing but stairs proves my point. The characters in the story each have their own personality, which makes you feel as if you are in the house also. The story has a lot of suspense and leaves you wondering if someone is going to fall down the stairs or starve to death. You never want to put the book down after you read the first page. Overall, the story [...]

    2. I had to find this book because all these years it stuck with me. The writing is good, not outstanding, but it is the "feel" of the book that made me look it up many years later. It is ominous, eerie, and totally out of the ordinary. This was a great book for teenagers back in the early 80's, and many of todays teens would probably enjoy it but back then we didnt have video games, cable tv, and the internet to command our attention, kids today are exposed to more, earlier than we ever were [...]

    3. I first read this in 5th gread. Now two years later I still think it is wonderful. it scared me so much since i live in a house with 4 flights of stairs. i have read all of sleators books and i thing this is one of the top three. the others would be Intersteller Pig and the writen in a diary style about the diffrent levles of the world (sorry i can't think of it's name). anyone who likes Sci-Fi should read this but i warn you its scary.

    4. The House of Stairs, by William Sleator, is a nightmare. Peter, Lola, Blossom, Abigail, and Oliver are five 16 year old orphan kids. They are put in a house of stairs and don't know why. There are endless stairs and there is no escape. All the stairs lead to the red machine. They will learn to like the red machine. Be prepared for what happens next. I recommend this book for kids of all ages. It is funny at the end. It is great!

    5. "House of Stairs" is about five teenagers who are placed in a surreal environment as part of a bizzare psychological experiment in conditioning. At first, all behave as predicted, and their behaviour is not very pretty. As nearly every reviewer has commented, the situation is something like that in "Lord of the Flies" or Jules Verne's similar but more gentle story, "The Long Vacation." Yet the point of the story is not that all people are innately savage and vicious. Rather, Sleator tells u [...]

    6. The novel "The house of stairs" from William Sleator is on the one hand a good and exciting book, but on the other hand the book has some passages that are very long and the ending ist very boring. The entertainment is okay but sometimes the suspense is very bad.The book has a good educational value because you learn lots of psychology.Futhermore the characters are very authentic.

    7. I'm not a psychology major by any means, but when I read this book I couldn't help but think, "This book would be great for Psychology majors." After saying thatI gave the book to one of my psychology friends (I have sooo many) and she absolutely adored it. It's got everything a brain picker would love. Puberty stricken teenagers (is that an oxymoron?), crazy stairs that go no where and a food machine that possbily shoots out food if you do a crazy dance for it? Sound insane? Well it is [...]
